CALL (02) 9977 7788When water damage strikes, every minute counts. Here's why Sydney homeowners trust Chem-Dry Action to restore their homes fast.
Water damage doesn't wait for business hours. Our experienced team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for all wet carpet repair and restoration across all Sydney suburbs — commercial and domestic.
We use professional-grade air movers and dehumidification equipment to speed-dry wet carpets, underlay and subfloors. The sooner we act, the better — reducing the risk of mould, bacteria and permanent damage.
Water damage creates the perfect environment for mould and bacteria to thrive. We disinfect all affected carpets, underlay and surfaces to prevent secondary contamination and protect your family's health.
We assess, remove and replace damaged underlay where necessary, and re-pin or re-stretch carpets back onto the smooth edge after drying — leaving your floors looking and feeling as good as new.
Water damage restoration is often covered by home contents insurance. We are a preferred supplier in Sydney for major insurers and can assist with documentation and claims to make the process as smooth as possible.
From a single wet room to a whole-house flood, we handle it all. We come out at a time that suits you — no waiting around. We also hire out air movers and dehumidification machines for customers who prefer to DIY.
Our proven process ensures your home is restored safely, thoroughly and as quickly as possible.
Take action on the day. The sooner you act, the less damage occurs and the lower the restoration cost.
Get a plumber or builder to carry out repairs if necessary before restoration begins.
Our technicians are IICRC certified and follow water damage restoration best practice standards.
Move contents to a dry, unaffected area. If making an insurance claim, photograph and document the damage.
We use professional air movers and dehumidifiers — typically required for 2–4 days until carpets, underlay and subfloor are completely dry.
Once dry, we re-pin or re-stretch carpets back onto the smooth edge and replace any damaged underlay.
Full carpet cleaning and sanitisation to remove bacteria, mould spores and any residual contamination. Re-position furniture.
Full restoration complete — your home is clean, dry, safe and back to normal as quickly as possible.
Not all water damage is the same. Before any restoration work begins, it's important to understand the type of water involved, as this determines the appropriate treatment and safety precautions.
Clean Water — This may come from a cistern leak, bath overflow or burst pipe. The safest category to deal with and the most straightforward to restore.
Grey Water — Washing machines, dishwashers or sink overflows can cause this type of flooding. Contains some contaminants and requires proper disinfection.
Black Water — Sewage backup or river flooding. This is the most hazardous category. We strongly recommend you do not attempt to dry black water affected carpets yourself. Carpets affected by sewage should be removed and disposed of immediately by professionals.
If you walk on a carpet and water appears where you step, the carpet is most likely saturated. Our technicians use moisture probes to accurately assess the extent of water damage where it is not immediately obvious.
Lifting the carpet and inspecting the underlay and subfloor is an effective way to determine the full size and extent of the damage:
If the carpet backing shows visible black mould on the hessian, or the carpet is old and rippled (indicating backing delamination), replacement is the better option.
Chem-Dry Action offers a complete 24-hour emergency water damage restoration service for both domestic and commercial properties across all Sydney suburbs. Our comprehensive service includes:
Drying machines are typically required for approximately 2–4 days before carpets, underlay and subfloor are completely dry. We also hire out air movers and dehumidification machines for customers who prefer to manage the drying themselves.
An early-morning call-out to Manly, Northern Beaches — ceramic water filter left running overnight, flooding hallway and dining room. Here is exactly how we handled it.
The call came in during the early hours of the morning. A ceramic water filter had been left running and had slowly released water across the hallway and into the adjoining dining room. The hallway was laid with vinyl — relatively straightforward to dry — but the dining room was cut pile synthetic carpet laid on foam underlay over a concrete slab.
This combination — foam underlay on concrete — is one of the most problematic for water damage. Foam absorbs and retains moisture, and concrete provides no drainage. Without prompt professional intervention, this is exactly the environment in which mould colonises within 24–48 hours.
Because this was clean water and we attended within a few hours of the incident, the damage remained limited. The customer will not need to make an insurance claim — a significant saving in time, stress and money.
The ceramic water filter left running — the source of the overnight flooding.
Moisture probe in use — mapping the full extent of water penetration beneath the carpet and underlay.
Water travels further than it appears. Before lifting a single piece of carpet, we use a professional moisture probe to map the full extent of the affected area — testing the concrete slab, the foam underlay and the smooth edge (the toothed timber strip that holds the carpet in place at the perimeter).
This step is critical. Without it, you risk leaving wet zones untreated — and those hidden pockets of moisture are precisely where mould begins. The probe reading confirmed the water had tracked well beyond the visibly damp area, extending under the wall unit and along the skirting boards.
To lift the carpet and access the full affected area, the wall unit had to be completely emptied and moved to a dry part of the house. All contents — glassware, ornaments and other items — were carefully relocated to the dining table to keep them safe and out of the work zone.
This is a normal part of the restoration process. Heavy furniture sitting on wet carpet prevents drying and can cause permanent staining or rust marks on carpet fibres. Moving it promptly is essential, not optional.
The wall unit emptied and relocated — essential to access the full carpet area beneath.
Carpet peeled back to reveal saturated foam underlay — the extent of the damage now clearly visible.
With the area cleared, the carpet was carefully lifted from the smooth edge and peeled back to expose the full extent of the wet underlay. The foam underlay was saturated — visibly dark and heavy with absorbed water. This is the single most important step in preventing mould: foam underlay in this condition cannot be dried in place. It must be removed.
The underlay was cut and temporarily taken outside to dry in the open air. The concrete slab beneath was then treated and prepared for drying with an air mover. The carpet itself, once lifted, was found to be in good condition — the cut pile synthetic fibres had not delaminated and the backing was intact.
All contents from the wall unit — glassware, decorative items and personal belongings — were carefully moved to the dining table and other dry surfaces. This protects items from further water exposure and gives the technician clear, unobstructed access to every part of the affected floor area.
Documenting the contents at this stage is also good practice. In cases where an insurance claim is required, a photographic record of all affected items is invaluable. In this instance, because the water source was clean and the response was rapid, no claim was necessary.
All contents from the wall unit carefully relocated — protecting belongings and giving full access to the floor.
Carpet and underlay back in position — wall unit returned, job complete.
Once drying was confirmed complete, fresh underlay was laid, the carpet refitted and re-pinned to the smooth edge, and the wall unit returned to its original position. The area was then professionally cleaned and sanitised. No insurance claim required — the job was done correctly from the start.
Once the concrete slab and carpet were confirmed fully dry, an antimicrobial treatment was applied to all affected surfaces. Fresh underlay was then laid, the carpet refitted and re-pinned to the smooth edge, and the entire area professionally cleaned and sanitised. The wall unit was returned to its original position and the customer's home was back to normal — with no insurance claim required.
The key lesson from this job is straightforward: speed and correct technique are everything. Clean water, attended within hours, with foam underlay removed promptly — this was a fully restorable situation with no lasting damage. Leave the same job for 24–48 hours, or attempt to dry the underlay in place, and you create the ideal conditions for mould to colonise the concrete, the carpet backing and the surrounding wall cavities.
If you have wet carpet — whether from a slow leak, an overflow or a burst pipe — call us immediately. The sooner we attend, the better the outcome and the lower the cost.
