Chem-Dry Action uses a patented Hot Carbonating Extraction (HCE) process — a fundamentally different approach to all other carpet cleaning methods. Instead of flooding your carpet with water, our system uses millions of tiny carbonating bubbles that penetrate deep into the carpet fibres, lifting dirt, bacteria and allergens to the surface where they are extracted away.

Steam cleaning (also called hot water extraction) uses a high-pressure machine that blasts large volumes of water deep into your carpet and underlay. This can cause over-wetting, which leads to longer drying times (sometimes 1–2 days), shrinkage, stretching, and — most seriously — the growth of mould and bacteria in the wet backing and underlay. This is a genuine health hazard.
Chem-Dry's Hot Carbonating Extraction uses approximately 80% less water than steam cleaning. The carbonating action lifts dirt to the surface without saturating the carpet, so your carpets dry in 1–2 hours and there is no risk of mould or bacterial growth. There are also no soapy residues left behind, so your carpets stay cleaner for longer.

You can walk on your carpets immediately after cleaning — Chem-Dry's low-moisture process means there is no need to stay off the carpet for hours. Your carpets will typically be fully dry within 1–2 hours of the technician leaving. We recommend wearing clean indoor shoes or socks rather than going barefoot or walking in from outside until the carpet is fully dry.
We recommend professional carpet cleaning every 6–12 months for most households. Research has shown that carpets that are regularly cleaned and protected have a significantly longer lifespan than those that are not. For households with pets, young children or allergy sufferers, more frequent cleaning (every 3–6 months) is advisable.
It is also worth noting that carpet actually acts as a filter — trapping dust, allergens and bacteria in its fibres rather than allowing them to circulate in the air. This makes regular cleaning especially important for maintaining a healthy indoor environment.
No. Chem-Dry does not use harsh alkaline pre-sprays that can strip away the protective coating on stain-resistant carpets. However, certain intensive stain-removal treatments may require the carpet to be re-protected afterwards. We will always advise you if this is the case and can apply fresh Chem-Dry Protectant as part of the service.

These dark lines are called filtration soiling. They occur when air passes through the gap between the carpet and the skirting board or under a closed door, depositing microscopic soil particles along the carpet edge over time. Because the particles are so fine, they penetrate deep into the carpet pile and can be very difficult to remove.
Our technicians carry specialist products to treat filtration soiling, and in many cases can achieve good results. To help prevent it, vacuum the edges of your carpet regularly. We recommend being careful near the tack-strip at the carpet edge, as it can be sharp.
Our technicians will move most standard furniture to ensure a thorough clean. However, to get the most out of your appointment, we recommend de-cluttering rooms as much as possible beforehand — removing small items, toys, ornaments and lightweight furniture. This allows the technician to spend the maximum amount of time on the actual cleaning process rather than moving items.
Very heavy items such as large wardrobes, pianos and entertainment units are generally not moved for safety reasons.
We recommend waiting approximately 6 hours before using upholstered furniture after cleaning. If we have applied fabric protection, this extends to 12 hours to allow the solution to fully settle into the fabric fibres and provide maximum protection. Your technician will advise you on the specific drying time for your furniture type.
Yes. We offer a free pick-up and return service for area rugs and oriental rugs across Sydney. Our technicians will collect your rug, clean it thoroughly at our facility using the appropriate method for the rug type and fabric, and return it to you clean, fresh and protected. This is particularly important for delicate or valuable rugs that require specialist handling.
Chem-Dry Action can clean a wide range of upholstery fabrics including cotton, polyester, microfibre, velvet, chenille, linen and most blended fabrics. We also offer specialist leather cleaning and conditioning as a separate service. Before commencing any upholstery clean, our technician will test a small, inconspicuous area to ensure the cleaning solution is appropriate for your specific fabric type.
The success of stain removal depends largely on how long the stain has been present, what caused it, and whether any previous cleaning attempts have been made. Fresh stains are almost always easier to remove than old, set-in stains.
